THE SCUMBAG!

I recently had A chance to chop it up with Artist/Philosopher/80's Buff & generally All around Fresh Kid "THE SCUMBAG" here's how it went:

The first thing I have to ask is how'd you get the name "Scumbag" or can you not elaborate on that?

The Scumbag:: I actually fought 3 bears in the wilderness, killed A unicorn for its horn and an indian chief made me drink the tears then I became what I AM!!!

That is some some scumbag shit.

The Scumbag:: Actualy what happened was, a couple years ago, when I met my wife, her dad apparently hated me, and wished I would meet a hidious death. So one thing he called me was a "Scumbag" and it actaully upset me... after a while, I got tired of it, and got my self to California for a long quest to get married. The day I actually meet him face to face, we didnt get along ... at ALL... I respect his ambition, but he called me that to my FACE, and out of some strange "YOU CANT MARRY MY DAUGHTER YOU SCUMBAG!!!!" argument... the name sorta stuck... instead of getting mad, it actually made me laugh. Because 2 days later my wife and i were married, then flew back to South Carolina.

Father in laws suck

Growin up what influenced ur grimy style..(What comics/cartoons did u digg?)

The Scumbag:: Sadly I wasn't fortunate enough to get a lot of comic books, I had a few Ninja turtles comic books, but they got ripped and thrown away :( It is kinda weird, my style started drawing Dragon Ball Z characters in 10 seconds back in high school, simply because anime is simple and completely easy to draw... especially dragonball's straight lined characters and from there I amped the details to hone in on a style that was influenced by some japanamation, american, and throwing a LITTLE Johnen Vasquez of the Johnny the Homicidal Maniac variety. Now I just find whatever I want, and just create it. I use some Spiderman and Xmen comics for reference... simply because vintage 80s comics were and are still amazing.

Yeah man. The eighties were the peak of civilization

I know youre working on a comic, When can we expect it?

The Scumbag:: It's not so much a matter of when we can expect it... it's a matter of who is going to fund it. It can be next month, it can be a year.... more than likely I'll end up making the first chapter, and pitching to a buddy of mine at Adult Swim. I have so many projects going on that when they STOP I can sit around and get to it lol, but if some Comic book company saw what I had an idea and funded the Cash with living expenses and what have you... lol I'd drop the world to get on it. But yeah, so for now I'll just continue to drop a top banner comic on the myspace page www. myspace. com/privatedale

I'm a horror film snob. please share some of your favorites..

The Scumbag:: I liked Giger's Alien, but I mean, nothing has been more inspirational than seeing that guy get sucked down a drain bones crushing and everything in the 80s remake "The Blob" that shit changed my life. I liked any zombie movies too, Night of the Living Dead, the amazing 'Return of the Living Dead" etc. Zombies are always nice... and anyone wearing a Thriller Jacket.

Red leather jackets ARE Gangsta. (Again the 80's were the peak of all civilization.)

What are u listening to at the moment besides the sounds in ur head---Bands, Producers, Albums.. etc...?

The Scumbag:: I'm into the 80s, and early 90s, some 70's dance... but electronic and techno is my main focus... basically because nearly every band or DJ comissioning me usually loves the crazy colors and chaos I tend to love to draw. Check the myspace to get a further understanding now that they finally added the music player. www. myspace. com/privatedale

"i said a hip hop the hippie the hippie to the hip hip hop, a you dont stop the rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogie to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat"

youve done some wild designs for people including yours truely, who else have u designed for?

The Scumbag:: Trashbags kids had me do "Garbage Pail Kids" style cards for their members, Obviously Culture Prophet was where I started. Since then I got projects running with Figure, Difuzion Krew, Satan's Circus Records,Heartahce a few t-shirt companies, and much more. The projects keep rolling in, and I love every minute of it. there are way too many to name. If you scroll through the myspace page, you can see some of the band logos that might be familiar :D

All kool ass people.. The Trashbag Kids project is Gold Btw
if someone wanted to commission u to get work done how do they go about linking up with u?

The Scumbag:: Mainly get at me on my myspace or email me at Amideis@gmail.com. Think before hand and come up with a Budget price in mind, and we'll hit it up via paypal, and emailing the high res files. Especially with T-shirts, color options, etc. there are MANY variables to keep in check.

Someone fund this kids comic!

So we can expect big things in 09!
where do u see the "i am scumbag" brand in 5 years?

The Scumbag:: Hmm... well right now I have the Zazzle store up and running so I'd like to get some comissions going with Hot Topic, or some popular places that would love this style of imagery... or I'd like to be a art director somewhere... dunno... I dont see it actually. I'm constantly changing... styles moving in different directions... once I DO something, I gotta move on to other things, you'll never know WHERE I'll be. I'd like to have a good line of companies started up with co owners who run them while I work on projects that I want to work on. It's like Culture Prophet told me... sometimes you just gotta do what YOU WANT TO DO, and forget everyone else. Just keep doing what your doing, and let people know... this is what I am, This is what I do, if you don't like it... There is the door! go look for that pansy shit elsewhere. I tend to break the trends, so we'll see...
